In 1976 Loren Alan (SRD founder) started his engineering career as a draftsman working for Electromech an aerospace contractor for IBM in San Jose, CA. Between then and 2001 while attending college and various computer and machining classes he worked for Motorola GED as a draftsman, Allied Military Laser as an engineer, Sloan Technology as a precision drive and systems engineer, Veeco as a semiconductor profilometer and systems engineer, and Dako as a biomedical instrumentation engineer. In 2001 he decided that he had gained enough engineering experience to start his own consulting company and Science Research and Development was started in Carpinteria, CA a beach town close to Santa Barbara and in 2010 moved to Ventura, CA. Since starting SRD Loren has contracted with a variety of companies and individuals working on everything from bicycles to biomedical systems. These companies included ARC Bikes, Bioimagene, Illumina, MDM, Cynvenio, Physical Focus, Culver Consulting, Crowson Technology, Albas Garment Works, Samy's Camera, Jean-Michael Cousteau Society, Dako, Dehlsen, Quality Machine, Cal Coast Fishing, Knocks Enterprises, and Pacific Scientific.
